Sinterklaas
November 16
Sinterklaas is a traditional Dutch holiday celebrating Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children. On the evening of December 5th, children place their shoes by the fireplace or door, and Sinterklaas and his helpers, known as Zwarte Piet, deliver gifts and candy.
The holiday is marked by festive parades, traditional sweets like pepernoten and chocoladeletters, and elaborate decorations. It’s a lively and magical experience, especially for children.
The welcoming of Sinterklaas will be on the 16th of November, where Sinterklaas will be entering the harbor of Groningen by ship as the tradition says.
Especially fun to visit with young children!
